YouTube has rolled out a series of updates to its player page on mobile devices to enhance the viewing experience for Android and iOS users. The changes relocate some elements, add new features — like an expanded set of gesture-based navigation options — and update existing ones, like video chapters, among other things.

The new update makes it easier to enter and exit the full-screen mode. The update was announced by YouTube product manager Reid Watson in a blog post.

YouTube has made it easier to enter and exit the full-screen mode. Viewers simply have to swipe up to enter the full screen and down to exit. And if you want to see how much time is counting down vs the time that's elapsed in a video, you can tap the timestamp to switch back and forth.

YouTube app is also getting a new YouTube Chapters feature that shows a complete list of chapters in a video that you're watching, along with a thumbnail to let users seek the video to whichever point they want.

The close captions button is no longer hidden in the three-dot menu and instead is now visible directly on the overlay menu. The same goes for the autoplay button. Both are now easier to reach while other buttons have been re-arranged for even more polished navigation.

Small improvements to the player, like re-arranged buttons that simplify its look and snappier controls have also been made.

YouTube will also start to roll out suggested actions feature, which prompt users to rotate phone or play a video in VR. It has also introduced bedtime reminders, a new digital wellbeing tool that lets users set reminders at specific times to stop watching videos and go to bed. This feature will be most useful for parents, whose kids spend their days indoors watching YouTube videos.

More suggested actions are coming in the near future, said Google.
