Of all the apps unavailable due to the massive global outage, WhatsApp is the most used on for regular chats and conversing with near and dear ones.

With WhatsApp unavailable for hours, thousands are having to look at alternate messaging options to keep up with their peers and continue their work that has been disrupted by the issue with Facebook’s services.

Several of such WhatsApp users have rushed to the alternate messaging platform Telegram Messenger. Consequently, Telegram has said that it is facing issues due to the flooding of new users on the app.

Replying to a Twitter user, Telegram Messenger said, “With all the new folks signing up, things are a little slow - it's nice to have them, but all at once is a little much. Sorry!”

Addressing the outage, WhatsApp had earlier released an initial statement, "We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!"
