Here’s what a 660 horsepower electric Corvette looks like blazing at 331 Km/h
US company Genovation eXtreme Electric (known as GXE,) known for converting popular petrol-driven supercars into electrically-powered versions, just set a speed record with their latest creation. Earlier this year in February they did so with a Chevrolet Corvette, and managed to clock a straight line speed of 186.8 mph (approximately 300 Km/h.)
They decided to have another go at the record, this time replacing the supercar’s petrol engine with two electric motors that put out a combined 660 horsepower and 600 ft-lbs (814 N/m) of torque. Powering this entire assembly was an array of batteries totalling 44 kWh of electric power, mounted within the transmission tunnel of the vehicle.
The ‘racetrack’ used was the runway of the Space Florida Shuttle Landing Facility at the Kennedy Space Center, a straight stretch extending 4,572 meters. At its peak, the car touched a speed of 205.6 mph (approximately 331 Km/h,) making it the fastest car of its class, as certified by the international Mile Racing Association (IMRA) who was present at the event.
