Watch: Microsoft wants to use HoloLens to change the way you watch sports

The CGI promo video promises us some amazing things; now if it could only be 2020 already.

    Microsoft's is releasing developer versions of its Augmented Reality headset HoloLens in the first quarter of 2016, for US $3,000. Until then, all we can do is wait and hope for magic. 

    And magic, it seems, is what Microsoft has in mind. The company just released another promo for the headset, visualising just what it can be used for in your day-to-day life. This time around, they see HoloLens transforming a simple pastime like watching sports (specifically, American Football) into an interactive dream. 

    The video shows the HoloLens being used to watch the game on an ultra-large screen, looking down on team movements from a birds-eye view hologram of the stadium on the coffee table, and even having players' holograms in the room, along with play-by-play analysis of their performance. Of course, all of this is going to be a long time coming, if it appears at all. While the HoloLens consumer version is scheduled to be shipped in 2020, something like this also presumes the cooperation of the NFL to create content that the headset can access, as opposed to just seeing more than your television can. On the other hand, dreaming never hurt anybody, especially not with that kind of awesome music.
