The game takes place in  Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where animatronic band performs kiddy songs by day and goes on murderous rampage by night. To win the game, players have to survive five nights (five levels) locked inside, knowing a death machine might jump out of dark.

The adaptation will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment and Seth Grahame-Sith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions. Roy Lee is known for producing several horror movies including the Grudge series.

These producers have been working together on a new adaptation of  Stephen King's It.

Five Nights as Freddy's will join the likes of Resident Evil (2002-), Alone in the Dark (2005) which were also adaptations of horror video games.
