The camera will have a 3.2 gigapixel lens and will photograph the visible southern night sky over a span of 10 years. It will observe the various stars and their galaxies, and give information about them to the scientists monitoring it. To carry out this process the camera is going to be placed on top of the Cerro Pachón mountain in Chile.

Owing to its 3.2 gigapixels, 1,500 HD TVs will apparently be needed to display a single frame of the high resolution pictures produced by the camera. This camera is aimed to provide scientists with substantial information that can be useful in understanding the universe.
