In what could be the first report of a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 catching fire, a woman from Long Island, New York has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Samsung after her new smartphone burst into flames in her purse.

According to The NY Post, just after midnight September 3, real estate agent Diane Chung was in the elevator of a Bayside building when her brand new phone “became extremely hot.” She stopped using the phone and put it in her bag. Suddenly, “she heard a whistling and screeching sound, and she noticed thick smoke” pouring from her purse, she stated. Reportedly, Chung put the bag on the elevator floor and tried to empty it, burning her fingers as she grabbed the smoking device.

When the elevator reached the lobby, she kicked the bag out of the elevator. However, the mobile didn’t stop burning until a person grabbed it with a cloth and plunked it into a bucket of water.

At the moment, there is no comment from Samsung regarding the issue.
