A decade after it released its first SD card with 512 MB storage capacity, Sandisk launched its latest SD card, SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I card, with a storage capacity of 512 GB on Friday. This is the highest storage space any SD card offers.
The card has been designed to capture high resolution files that require massive storage space with ease. It has a write speed of up to 90 MB/s and read speed up to 95 MB/s. The card would be useful for photographers and cameramen for photos captured through DSLR cameras in high speed burst mode and videos shot in 4K Ultra High Definition and HD video cameras.
In a statement from the company, Dinesh Bahal, vice president of product marketing said, “4K Ultra HD is an example of a technology that is pushing us to develop new storage solutions capable of handling massive file sizes. The 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I card is a tremendous advancement that enables professionals to reliably store more content on a single card than ever before.”
The card also allows for faster transfer of files with a speed of up to 95 MB/s.
Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design, said he was excited by the creative freedom this will offer customers. “Our Pocket Cinema Camera customers shoot in every type of circumstance and location, and get amazing wide dynamic range RAW images capturing the brightest highlights and darkest shadows at the same time. The additional capacity of the SanDisk Extreme PRO UHS-I card will extend the creative freedom for our customers shooting in RAW and open up the ability to use wide dynamic range RAW files with even more productions.”
Sandisk says that the card is temperature-proof, waterproof, shock-proof, and x-ray-proof. The card is priced at $800.
