Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani finally introduced its Jio 4G services in India today. He also announced at the 42nd AGM that Jio, will be launched on September 5, and will offer customers free domestic voice calls and zero roaming charges. For customers in Delhi and Mumbai, your Aadhaar cards will allow you to get the connection activated in 15 minutes with e-KYC. New users will get unlimited access to all services till December 31 respectively.
Mukesh Ambani stated, “World over, operators charge only for data, voice and messaging are essentially free. All voice calls for Jio customers will be absolutely free.” He added, “Jio will fulfill the Digital India dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Jio will charge a mere 1/10th of what its competitors are charging for 4G data services in the country. He said that the company is prepared to change the industry for tariffs, which is built on three principles. Firstly, customers should only pay for just one service, either voice or data. All voice calls for Jio customers would be free. The second principle is that, data should be affordable. Lastly, the pricing structure for the service should be simple for anyone to understand.
As for the plan, the Jio 4G tariffs start at Rs 149, offering 300MB for 28 days. At a price of Rs 499/month, customers will get up to 4GB of 4G data along with unlimited 4G at night, for 28 days respectively.
For Rs 999/month, customers will get up to 10GB of 4G data along with 20GB of WiFi. They will also get unlimited usage at night. For Rs 1,499/month, customers will get 20GB worth of 4G data while for Rs 2,499/month, customers will get 35GB worth of 4G data. At Rs 3,999/month, customers will get 60GB worth of 4G data. The most expensive plan is priced at Rs 4,999/month. This plan will offer 75GB worth of 4G usage, along with unlimited 4G usage at night, and 150GB of WiFi data respectively. Additionally, students will also get 25 percent extra data on the tariffs. However, they will need a valid ID for signing up for the service.
