China's leading Internet search company, Baidu has collaborated with German car manufacturer BMW, to develop an automated car to cope with traffic chaos, said a Technology Review report.
According to the report, Andrew Ng, the chief scientist of Baidu, shared his experience of driving the car and how the automatic brakes saved a minor accident.
To check the performance of the car, the company tested on a 30-kilometer highway route at Baidu's Beijing headquarters by merging the car into traffic and successfully overtook other vehicles, said the report.
Though this project is less advanced than Google's, but Baidu is one of the only few companies to have permission by Chinese government to test automated driving.
As per the report, the software used in the car, was developed at Baidu's Deep Learning Institute centre, to apply latest machine learning techniques to the automated car,
To expand the business, Baidu is now entering into areas such as personal finance and banking, said the report.
