Tech company NextVR is providing the livestreamed broadcast, and though it won't and though it won't be providing 360° coverage from every angle, specialist widescreen cameras will be in several positions around the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA.

With the broadcast set to start at 7.30pm EDT (11.30pm UTC) and the match starting half an hour later, viewers will be able to switch between perspectives from the stands, sidelines, midfield, and behind the goal, reports Road to VR.

Spanish giants Real Madrid play current German champions Bayern Munich as part of the International Champions Cup, a schedule of pre-season friendlies that has been taking place in Australia, China, Ireland, the United States, Sweden, and the UK during off-season.

It will mark the first time that Carlo Ancelotti faces his old team, Real, as the recently-installed coach of Bayern Munich.

NextVR's app is available from within the Gear VR's digital store, Oculus Home, while Samsung's Gear VR headset is designed for use with phones in the Galaxy Note 5, S6, and S7 series.
