NASA releases video explaining why Scott Kelly spent 340 days in space.
Scott Kelly spent 340 days in space as the Commander of the International Space Station. In that one year Commander Kelly a couple of records: most consecutive time spent by an astronaut in space and most time spent by a US astronaut in space.
Scott Kelly will be subjected to a few functional tests like getting up from a seated position, climbing a ladder and manoeuvre through obstacles to determine the extent of damage space can have on a human body and the adaptability to gravity after a prolonged duration in space.
Adverse effects of long term weightlessness include slowing down of cardiovascular functions, weakening the immune system, balance disorders, decreased production of red blood cells, eyesight disorders, muscle atrophy (loss of muscle mass) and spaceflight osteopenia (deterioration of the skeleton.)
NASA Scientists will use this research to further space exploration to asteroids and other planets.
What happens next? @StationCDRKelly's balance will be put to the test. Details: https://t.co/OZSnbVe1zchttps://t.co/ZuFRXeKRb4
