Minecraft sales top 100 million, now the second best-selling game ever
The smash hit sandbox adventure has spawned a variety of clones, but still remains popular despite old-fashioned pixel art graphics.
On June 2, Mojang, developers of Microsoft's Minecraft, announced that the game has sold over 100 million copies, averaging at 53,000 per day in 2016.Minecraft is a procedurally-generated sandbox game, where users dig and build constructions from blocks in a 3D world with varying habitats and terrains. It has become immensely popular with children and adults over the years since its conception in 2011 by Swedish programmer Markus Persson.
