Google honors Jagdish Chandra Bose on his 158th birthday by decorating its homepage with a doodle.

He was born on 30 November 1858 in Mymensingh, (now a part of Bangladesh). His parents raised him with pure Indian traditions and culture.

Bose was not only known for his achievements in biophysics also for his work on radio communication and microwaves. He discovered millimetre length electromagnetic waves and was the first to use a semiconductor to detect radio signals. Bose was also a well-known botanist. He also invented the crescograph, a device that is used for measuring plant growth.

After studying physics at Calcutta University,  Bose studied at the University of Cambridge. In 1884, Bose returned to India after he attained a BSc degree from Cambridge.

In 1920, He was awarded the Fellow of the Royal Society for his for scientific achievements.

To honour Bose, an impact crater on the southern hemisphere of the Moon was named after him.

Bose was also a science fiction writer and is considered the father of Bengali science fiction.
