Child prodigy Satyam Kumar wants to develop FB-like platform

What does it take to overcome challenges such as an autistic father and a humble agrarian background and crack IIT entrance examination when you are still a teenager? Nobody would know that better than the 13-year-old Satyam Kumar of Bihar’s Ara district, who cracked the IIT exams this year. He sums it up in one word, ‘passion’. 

Ever since Satyam Kumar’s name appeared against rank 679 of this year’s IIT results, celebrations haven’t stopped in the sleepy Bakhorpur village located twelve kilometres from Ara. Satyam’s autistic father – who is a small time farmer -- has been eclectic and pounces on the mobile every time it rings and announces his son’s extraordinary feat unless someone else coaxes him to handover the phone.

Ask Satyam about his future plans and he says, “I am planning to develop social networking site like Facebook. Once I a pass out from the IIT, I would also like to sit for the civil services examinations. I want to take the exam when I turn 21,” said Satyam.

whose director RK Verma supported the extraordinarily talented boy financially also. 

Satyam’s uncle Ram Pukar Singh said Satyam had been a talented child from the very beginning. “When Satyam was just about five years old, he used to solve Std X level questions related to physics and maths. It was then that we decided that we will nurture the child. I then took him to Kota, where he completed tenth from CBSE in 2010, and class XIIth  in 2012. Last year also he appeared for the IIT examination but was not satisfied with his rank at 8,137 and decided to take the exam again this year,” said Singh.      

Asked about his plans for his home state, he said, “Whenever I will come for holidays, I will use the information technology and social media to educate the children in our locality.”

‘Super 30’
The underprivileged students of ‘Super30’ here have yet again made it big at the IIT entrance examination with 28 out of the total 30 students qualifying. The result of JEE(Advance) was declared on Friday.
