CES 2017: The Lego Boost teaches young kids to code
Lego is renewing its interest in entry-level programming with the Lego Boost range of kits.
Introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017, Lego Boost connects a WiFi-enabled Lego piece to Android or Apple devices. That special Move Hub can interact with other motors and both color and distance sensors, carrying out instructions prepared through a drag-and-drop app.
Plans for tank-track robot Vernie, Frankie the cat, space rover MTR4, Guitar 4000 and an Autobuilder are included in the $159 kit, which is expected during the second half of 2017, and is compatible with standard Lego bricks.
In that way it differs from the company's Lego Mindstorms range, which is derived from the Technics sub-brand; Boost is also designed to be more accessible with a 7+ advisory starting age, compared to Mindstorms' older 10 year recommended minimum.
