Which is why their new BOSEbuild speaker cube is so intriguing--this diminutive Bluetooth speaker is aimed not at the typical Bose speaker buyer, but at children. It is basically a do-it-yourself speaker building kit that aims to deliver a hands-on experience while, in the process, building a Bose speaker.

The experience involves learning about the various technologies that go into the construction of a speaker, including electromagnets, coils, speaker enclosures and more. The kit includes a magnet, coil, speaker panel, a control panel with the necessary circuitry, side panels, a power supply, and a range of silhouette covers to personalize the finished speaker.

The kit is built by following instructions delivered by a special app (only available for the iPhone.) During the process, the app steps the builder through 15 various activities including the use of magnets, understanding sound frequencies, equalization etc.

The finished speaker can stream audio via any Bluetooth 3.0 or higher device, such as laptops, smartphones (Android as well) and more. It can also play music using its conventional 3.5mm audio input socket.

Recommended for children aged 8 and above (and several keen adults too, we’d imagine,) this $150 speaker (approximately Rs 10,120) can be assembled without needing to solder anything or go through difficult configuration steps.
