BookMyShow rolls out video-on-demand streaming service in India, check details

The video content will be available based on different categories on BookMyShow Stream: Premieres, World Cinema, Exclusives, and Festival Favourites.

In competition with the well-established streaming platforms, BookMyShow has now entered the fray with the launch of its new transactional video-on-demand service (TVOD). The online ticketing platform's streaming service, BookMyShow Stream, is going to provide the content viewers with the option to either rent a movie for a limited time period or buy it to gain unlimited access.

The popular ticketing platform suggested that the BookMyShow Stream will include films and other video content from all over the world apart from India. It already has some 72,000 hours of content made up of 600 film titles.

It added that BookMyShow stream would also future multiple marquee premieres on Fridays. At the same time, around 22,000 hours worth of content is being offered 'exclusive' on the platform from its launch.

It will also be acquiring video content from independent film distributors such as Superfine Films, Kahwa Entertainment, VR Films, and PictureWorks, among others, making it the first streaming platform in India to host such content. The content will be available based on different categories on the BookMyShow Stream: Premieres, World Cinema, Exclusives, Festival Favourites, Missed in Theatres, and other dedicated bundles.

Accessing the films on the BookMyShow Stream will cost from Rs 40 onwards to about Rs 700, as per the information provided.

The viewers can access the films on the mobile app of BookMyShow along with the website. It will also be available on Firestick, Android TV, Apple TV, and desktop browsers, it said. BookMyShow added that the users could also use other features for downloading, casting, and offline viewing too.

The ticketing platform said that it would not impact its theatrical business as the content will only be available on the streaming service after the theatrical run of a film.

Some of the films that will be premiering exclusively on BookMyShow Stream are The Peanut Butter Falcon, The Guilty, Unhinged, Les Miserables, Coma, Yes God Yes, and Alone.
