Apple’s Map app reportedly directed motorists to Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport’s runway rather than its parking area.
Fairbanks International Airport revealed that in the past three weeks, two motorists had driven along the taxiway and across one of its runways. Chief of operations at the airport, Melissa Osborn said that they asked Apple to disable the map for Fairbanks until they could correct it, the BBC reports.
The report said that the runway the motorists crossed was used by 737 jets among other aircraft, but no one was injured. A spokeswoman for the airport said that Apple had finally disabled the faulty directions at about 19:00BST. Apple has faced criticism for its faulty map app after ditching Google’s mapping service as its default map option last year.
Meanwhile, the company’s CEO Tim Cook posted an apology letter to the firm's website for the frustration caused and promised that they are doing everything to make Maps better.
