Apple introduces low price tier for India; now get apps for Rs 10
Apple has introduced a new "low price" tier on iTunes, allowing developers to competitively price their apps for emerging markets.
Apple has dropped prices across the iTunes store in many countries, as evidenced by an email it sent out to developers a few days ago.9to5mac.com had access to the email, which states that app prices in Mexico, South Africa, South Korea and Turkey are being raised. South Korea has a new 10% value added tax to deal with, hence the price rise, while the changes in the other three countries are due to fluctuating echange rates. Meanwhie a new low-tier pricing system has also been introduced in Turkey, Mexico, South Africa, Russia, Indonesia, and India, with Tier A and Tier B prices. The new prices have been implemented to allow developers to capture audiences in price-sensitive countries and emergin markets. Tier b will allow a developer to price their app at Rs 30, and Tier A sets it at Rs 10, the lowest amount that can be charged. That's about US $0.16, where the minimum amount used to be Rs 60 or US $0.96.
