Do radiations from mobile phone towers cause health hazard? Know here

The parts of the head or body nearest to the antenna can absorb this energy and convert it to heat, which may cause damage to brain cells.

The antennas in mobile phones, including smartphones, emit radiofrequency. The radiation emanating from the mobile tower has a serious impact on our health, including our body and mind. However, the risk associated with mobile phones can be prevented or reduced.

Radiofrequency (RF) emits radiation (non-ionizing "radio waves" such as microwaves). The parts of the head or body nearest to the antenna can absorb this energy and convert it to heat. The heat may cause damage to brain cells in our body.

You can ask a government team to check cell tower radiation at your home and get it reduced, for a charge, if necessary.

The radiation emanating from the mobile tower has a great impact on our body and mind. In such a situation, if you want to know how many mobile towers are around your house, then you can get the information about the same. For this, you have to enter your name, location, e-mail, and your number on Tarang sanchar.gov.in or the EMF portal. On filling in the details, you will get information about the mobile tower of that area.

To get information about how much radiation is around the house, you need to visit the web portal of the Department of Telecommunications (DOT). After this, a team of engineers will visit your location to check the level of radiation.

If you get more radiation than the prescribed amount, then you can complain about it at DOT. However, you will be charged Rs 4,000 for this service.

In a research, it has been found that mobile phones can change brain activity, reaction times, and sleep patterns. Moreover, excessive use of mobiles can cause stress, eye irritation, depression, and sleeplessness.

It is highly advised that the mobile phones should not be kept near the head while sleeping. The user should use an earpiece or Bluetooth device to answer calls rather than placing a cell phone directly to the ear.

The World Health Organisation's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) says radiation from cellphone handsets and towers is "possibly carcinogenic to humans" and may cause glioma, a type of brain cancer. Towers are more dangerous than handsets because they emit greater-intensity radiation all times of the day.
