PUBG Mobile India was expected to be launched by the end of 2020 after a slew of teasers and announcements by the Corporation during the period of Diwali. However, following the high, PUBG Mobile India’s comeback has now been stalled. The reason – PUBG Mobile India has not yet been given permission to operate by MEITY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology). This was the same Ministry that had banned 118 Chinese Mobile apps in September and PUBG was in the list. Now, the disappointment is all set to increase with the game potentially not coming to the Indian market by January-February 2021.

According to a report by InsideSports, PUBG Mobile’s executives have been requesting for a meeting with MEITY for the last four weeks. The latest development is that MEITY has not yet responded to the request for the meeting and this has prolonged their wait. The InsideSport report further stated that the game promoters are ready to comply to all norms set by the Indian government.

The speculation is that the meeting between PUBG officials and MEITY will pave the way for the successful launch of the game in India. However, once the meeting takes place and permission formalities are given, then there is a faint hope that PUBG Mobile India could be launched by January-February 2021 but only if MEITY makes a move now.

PUBG Mobile vs FAU-G

Recently, PUBG India became a registered company on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs website with ownership details and address. However, that is not the first step in the game’s relaunch. “Any banned entity can’t operate just by floating new company. This even Tik Tok or anyone else can do. They will have to get permissions from MEITY to operate once again in India,” a source told InsideSports.

However, the current dynamics in India suggest that for any person or business to operate legitimately in India, they require a PAN or a GST Number. PUBG Mobile India does not have either and without that, they cannot start operating or dream of a comeback.

In what has been seen as a decisive move, FAU-G, considered the Indian alternative to PUBG, announced its pre-registration on November 30 on the occasion of Gurupurab. In a tweet, it gave the pre-registration link with the message, “On the auspicious occasion of Gurupurab, we are starting the pre-registrations of FAU-G: Fearless And United Guards.

It is the launch of the pre-registrations for FAU-G that has prompted PUBG to make some quick decisions and request MEITY to give the necessary permissions. Regarding the current situation, it looks like FAU-G could steal the march on PUBG and launch it first in India.
