The ninth seed, Bhambri overcame resistance from Ymer in the 11th game of the match when he broke the 17 seed. He held his serve in the following game, winning 70% of his first serve points and closed the game in his favour.

In the second set, Bhambri broke the world no 133 to take the massive lead of 5-1. Ymer's save for two match points couldn't do much for the Swiss player.

Showing remarkable performance on American hardcourts, Bhambri now will face Mirza Basic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first round of Miami Open.

Basic is the lucky loser who despite losing in the second and final qualifying round made the draw. Bhambri and Basic have played each other in 2016 at the Sofia Open. The Indian had lost to Basic in straight sets. Only time will tell if Bhambri's momentum will carry him into the next round where he will face eighth seed Jack Sock.
