Yogeshwar Dutt's bronze medal from 2008 Beijing Olympics may have been upgraded to silver after Russian wrestler Besik Kudukhov tested positive for a banned substance, but it is unlikely that the Indian grappler will be given the gold if the eventual winner is also confirmed to have failed the dope test.
There were reports on Friday that Dutt might see another upgrading and be given gold after murmurs that 2008 Olympics champion Toghrul Asgarov of Azerbaijan had also failed dope test. However, there has been no official confirmation of this either from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) or the United World Wrestling (UWW).
According to a top source in the Wrestling Federation of India, even if Asgarov tests positive, Dutt is not going to benefit from it. He added that going by the rules, the gold will go to another bronze winner Coleman Scott of the United States because he lost to the eventual champion.
Dutt's bronze has been upgraded to silver because he lost to the losing finalist Kudukhov, who died in a car crash.
Moreover, Dutt also has to undergo dope test and come clean to be awarded the silver.
