WWE Exclusive: The New Day talk Kofi Kingston's title opportunity and Wrestlemania 35

One of WWE's biggest tag team The New Day were in India recently as part of the first ever WWE Talent Tryouts in the country.

The trio of Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods interacted with the participants in the tryouts where 80 participants inclduing 20 women displayed their talent. The New Day connected with the WWE Universe and met with WWE fans in Mumbai.

They sat down for a chat with DNA Online for fun-filled discussion about Kofi Kingston's lost title opportunity, Wrestlemania 35, the greatest tag teams in the world and all other things WWE.

DNA: First of all, the obvious question - Kofi Kingston has been denied the chance to face Daniel Bryan at WWE Fastlane - how are you feeling about that?

Kofi:  Well, it certainly does not feel good because, uh, I've been a lifelong WWE fan and as a child, this has been my dream to be here. Uh, and I would always dream of being WWE champion and I was very close to achieving that dream a couple of times in the past few weeks and to have it taken away, (that) didn't feel good. It was very disheartening. But, you know, I take things one day at a time and uh, hopefully there will be another opportunity in the future. 

Woods: You're being diplomatic, but it sucks. That's the official stance for me. It is a horrible injustice. The worst thing that has happened in WWE history. It is atrocious, despicable and disgusting. Let's use more adjectives like that? What else? It is disgusting. 

DNA: Will we see Kofi or The New Day in action at Wrestlemania this year?

The New Day: Yes. We hope Kofi will be in action against Daniel Bryan unless he loses to the Kevin Owens, but it doesn't matter. Kofi will be in the WWE championship match. We don't know how. We don't know when. I mean we know the day mania was when I was finishing. Please let me finish. We do know when while we don't know by what means, we will get there is the point. That's what we will find a way I can cause that. That's what how it means.

DNA: There are a lot of stories about The New Day turning heel or splitting up - Are we going to see a major change in direction for you soon?

The New Day: If there was, why would we just tell you in an interview? Hold on. It doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make any sense. We have said multiple times for the past five years we were used to being a group. We refused to break up. So just because you see a little something on the internet from a non-viable source, you're going to ask us questions about it. You should be asking better questions.

DNA: All three of you are brilliant individual performers as well - will we see more singles push like Kofi in coming days?

The New Day: We don't  know what the future holds. We are there to take opportunities as they come about and the opportunity we're taking right now is to make sure that Kofi gets a chance to fight for the WWE world championship. That is what you're going to see. Focus on that. Focus on that. We can't give you the whole cake. We give you a piece. If we give the kids the whole cake at one time, they're going to get sick. Get slice by slice. Take what you got. 

DNA: You started out as a serious team but has gained popularity as the fun ones - How did that change happen?

The New Day: Uh, it changed because we took the reins. Someone else had the reins to the ship. Someone else was piloting the ship and we were all on the ship. We all had a hand on the ship, but there are too many hands on the steering wheel, steering wheel. All we need is these six hands. That's plenty of hands already.  So when we had the opportunity  to be ourselves to run things more the wy that we wanted to run them, you saw us take off because we got to be ourselves. We got to have more control and that was a very big part was the uh, control and just being ourselves.

DNA: You have seen some big talents from India WWE - what do think of the future of WWE in India and the talent here?

The New Day: Very strong, very strong. We actually got to hop into the tryout. The first ever try out in India for WWE which is pretty incredible. And we got to see about 80 talent, 20 of them being women. It was pretty incredible, but you got to see some very massive human beings. Get to see some great athletes, to see people cutting promos who ooze charisma. So there's a lot of talent here. 

You have someone (Rinku Singh) who has had a movie made about them- 'The million dollar arm'. Suarabh Gurjar is another guy who is a Bollywood actor. He also did some kickboxing too if we are not mistaken. There is a lot of awesome and amazing Indian talent and We're very excited along with the rest of us to see what the future holds. Kavita Devi was in the women's battle royal at Wrestlemania. It's pretty incredible. She's also an evolution. 

There's a big fan base here in India for WWE and it's just natural that after a while, you know, it's a market in which we're going to have more talent come out of this region and really put their stamp on the WWE. 

DNA: What has been your impression of India? Have you guys tried Indian food?

The New Day: The food is incredible and We had our favorite meal of all time here in Mumbai. A couple of years ago. Food is incredible. The dal, the garlic naan chicken, you know, it's funny that you said, uh, some of our highlights and the food because they are one in the same. The food is such a highlight. That is honestly one of the first things that we thought about. When you see, uh, India, Mumbai on our schedule, then we are excited about the food immediately. 

And then furthermore, just the people here, We've said it on every single interview that we've had. Everyone is so welcoming and it's just a very humbling for, uh, people to, to, to welcome you, to feel welcome in a place where you're not at home and you fill it home. So we're always thankful and grateful to be a, to becoming to India.
