The top-ranked players showed that they were hungry for the titles as they played some dominating tennis against their opponents in their first round matches.
After Rafael Nadal's first round loss on Day 1 of Wimbledon, Day 2 saw dominance from top-seeds Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic. The top-ranked players seemed to be sending out a message to rivals that they mean business and are here to win the title.
Serena who got into a verbal duel with Maria Sharapova over the latter's boyfriend Grigor Dmitrov took her unbeaten run at SW19 to 32 wins. The World No1 overpowered her first round opponent Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-1, 6-3 with her powerful ground strokes, as she showed she is clearly in the mind to successfully defend her title.
The American will next face 19-year-old Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia in the second round.
Men's World No1 Novak Djokovic who won at Wimbledon in 2011 completed a 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 defeat of Florian Mayer in less than 2 hours.
Djokovic may have been disappointed after his loss at the French Open when he was defeated by eventual winner and 'King of Clay' Rafael Nadal in the semi-final, but here he is keen to play his 'A' game.
Wimbledon may be all about Roger Federer who is seeking his 8th Wimbledon title, but Djokovic who opted to skip the grass court pre-Wimbledon competitions looks good to making the finals.
