West Indies 'A' Carter-wheel to big victory

For a while, it looked like Yuvraj Singh, Unmukt Chand and then Kedar Jadhav would carry India ‘A’ comfortably home. However, the dismissals of centurion in the first match, Yuvraj (40), the highest scorer, and Yusuf Pathan (0) off consecutive balls from spinner Nikita Miller spelt doom for them.

In the end, the hosts were beaten by 55 runs in the second unofficial one-day match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Tuesday. The visitors put up 279 for six from 50 overs, while India were all out for 224 in 48.4 overs. The three-match series is now tied 1-1.

The one who played a major role in the West Indies ‘A’ team’s win was Jonathan Carter. Capitalising on a life provided in the form of a dropped catch by Yusuf Pathan when he was on six, he scored 133 (132 balls, 18x4, 3x6). He even got a wicket later. Miguel Cummins scalped four batsmen and hastened the win.

Despite Robin Uthappa’s presence at the crease, India ‘A’ started cautiously scoring only 15 of the first five overs. They lost two quick wickets before Yuvraj added a bit of stability.

Though he scored a big six and smashed three boundaries, Yuvraj could not repeat the heroics of the first match. His dismissal was followed by flurry of wickets with no other batsman managing to make the difference.

The third and final unofficial ODI will be played at the same venue on Thursday.
