Brit footballer Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen have become proud parents of a baby boy and they have named him Kai Wayne Rooney.

The unusual first name had been picked out by Coleen, and a thrilled Pat Morrey, 78, who is the soccer star's grandmother, said she did not know why the moniker was chosen, but that Wayne definitely wanted the baby to have his name.

Coleen, 23, gave birth to the couple's son at Liverpool Women's hospital on November 2, and her baby, who was nine days overdue, weighed in at 8lbs 2oz.

"Mother and baby are both absolutely fine," the Sun quoted a spokesman for the Rooneys as saying.

"Wayne and Coleen are thrilled with the wonderful addition to their family life," the spokesman added.

Pat, who has 17 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, said Coleen chose the Liverpool hospital because she wanted a "Scouse son".
