Vivek Jain top scores at RWITC elections

The members of the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) have once again pinned their hopes on Vivek Jain turned out to be the favourite, as he polled 662 votes off the 800, who were present for the voting in the 95th Annual General Body meeting, held at the Mahalaxmi Race Course here on Saturday.

In the only fight between SK Lamba and Geoffrey B Nagpal, for the Ex-Co membership, the members preferred the latter as he ran away with 521 as against Lamba’s 249.

With Mohan Thakkur out of the race, all the eight sitting committee members were re-elected. In all, 800 out of the 1,800 members of RWITC turned up for the AGM, making it one of the most low profile elections ever.

“It was because of the long weekend, but still if 800 have turned up it is good,” said Jain, who will again be at the helm of the committee, for the second term on the trot.

“I am happy that the members believe that we in the committee can do something good for the club. I thank all of them,” said Jain.

Nagpal, in his second attempt, returned successful. “I did lose out in the battle last year, but I am thankful that with Vivek Jain at the helm, we the committee would serve the members and the people concerned in racing,” said Nagpal.

Jaydev M Mody polled the second highest with 569 ovtes while Champaklal Zaveri was third with 555 votes.
