Vinayak Mane quits J&K, blames internal politics

Vinayak Mane, who had a cricketing migration to Jammu & Kashmir last year, has decided not to continue with the team for the forthcoming season. The former Mumbai opener is now planning a move to Goa, which, like J&K, plays in the Plate Division of the Ranji Trophy.

“I have taken the No Objection Certificate (NoC) from Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association. I won’t play for them any more,” Mane told DNA from Chandigarh where he is representing Bharat Petroleum in the JP Atray Trophy.

The 28-year-old Shardashram lad, who was in the contention for an India spot not long ago, said internal politics in the J&K team has forced him to move out. “I don’t want to dwell much into that. I was not comfortable playing over there and also I was not getting runs hence I opted to leave Jammu,” he said.

The opener, however, refused to blame the prevailing tension in the state. “We were given security protection so I didn’t feel unsafe. It was an experience,” he said.

Mane said he enjoyed playing in Kashmir. “It was an experience, the bowlers enjoyed the most as the wickets were helpful, the temperature was low, the venues were picturesque and the facilities were fine,” he said.

Mane praised the players from the region. “They are very enthusiastic about the game and play with passion. But other issues do not let them open up,” he said.

The right-hander knows it will be difficult to break into the Mumbai side. “It is tough to get back because Mumbai have a very good side. But whenever they want me I will be there for my team because my heart beats for them,” he said.  “The youngsters are doing pretty well and the competition will only motivate me to do well.”

Having suffered heavily due to his frequent injuries, what has kept him going? “I do not take any game lightly whether it’s club or office matches. One good knock can change my fortunes,” he signed off.
