Ugly spat at AGM stuns members

The 83rd AGM of the BCCI here on Thursday witnessed some ugly scenes, with a couple of members getting into a verbal spat.
Aslam Goni of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and Sunil Dev of Delhi and District Cricket Association were engaged in a fierce of exchange of words in the midst of the meeting, leaving other members in stunned silence.

At least five members DNA spoke to said the showdown was nasty and loud. The point of contention was Goni’s charge that North Zone associations were not giving the JKCA enough membership in the BCCI’s committees. Later, Goni told mediapersons he was unhappy with the way JKCA was kept out of the loop. “A few associations are taking decisions without consulting us,” he said.

President N Srinivasan tried to pacify the members and said the issue was a zonal matter which should not spill into the AGM.
North officials have told this paper that Goni and JKCA are part of at least five committees. They also pointed out that the marketing committee is headed by JKCA president Farooq Abdullah.

They have also raised the issue of misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 23 crore in JKCA which became a national debate a few months back. Interestingly, the BCCI has not taken cognisance of the issue yet.
