U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy: Baroda get trapped in Goriwale’s spin web

Left-arm spinner Sagar Goriwale bowled Mumbai to an emphatic innings and 130-run win over Baroda in the U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy at the MCA ground in BKC on Monday.

The youngster, who took four wickets for 33, finished with a match haul of seven wickets while Shashank Singh scalped three to bundle out Baroda for a mere 137 in their second innings.

Chasing a mammoth first innings total of 409, Baroda were folded out for 142 on Sunday before being asked to follow on by Mumbai skipper Neelkanth Parab.

Shashank was the most economical bowling seven maidens off eight overs conceding eight runs while Harmeet Singh, who took four wickets in the first innings, went wicketless in the second.

Their dismissive performance continued in the second innings too as none of the batsmen could reach the half-century mark. No 7 batsman Vishnu Solanki (48) was the saving grace for the visitors while Dhiren Mistry was the second highest scorer with 48.

Resuming their second innings at an overnight total of 17/2, Baroda lost another two wickets at the same score. Off the eleven, four batsmen failed to open their account.

The only notable partnership was the 52-run stand for the seventh wicket between Mistry and Solanki. Mumbai have garnered six points from this win and are leading the Elite A group with 19 points.
