Social media sang praises of McCullum immediately after the event. Here is how Twitter responded to the record-breaking feat:

Sachin Tendulkar is the God of Cricket but McCullum is no less, apparently.

Aniruddh has some generic but nice praise.

But then he probably goes a bit overboard.

He sure loves McCullum. A Lot.

Andy brings the discussion down to earth, but McCullum is a limited overs legend.

Pranay Sawant kills two birds with a single stone.

Hahaha Einstein...

Uh ok, but this is not the point.

Hyperbole?

Ya, we have all being trolled big. Is there more to it though?

As usual Mohandas Menon has some stats for us.

And Ramesh Srivats some well timed humour.

Harsha Bhogle to state the obvious in a tribute, to end this.

McCullum retires, probably too soon for anyone's liking, with an array of memories that will rarely be forgotten.

Regardless of whether New Zealand can win this Test match, McCullum's legacy as a dashing, fearless batsman and an inspirational captain who took New Zealand to their first World Cup final, will remain etched forever in history.
