The match against AFC Champions Qatar in Doha can be termed as Indian Senior National Team’s most significant result in recent times.

A resolute India held Qatar to a goalless draw at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in their second Group E match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 joint qualifiers.

Qatar, who beat Japan 3-1 in the final of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, are currently ranked 62 in the FIFA Rankings, while India are at 103.

The Sunil Chhetri-less Indian team survived the constant onslaught from Qatar but managed to keep them at bay.

Chhetri wasn’t able to recover in time from his viral infection and wasn't part of the playing unit. He, however, has shown how proud he is of the Blue Tigers.

The skipper took to Twitter and wrote, "Dear India, THAT is my team and THOSE are my boys! Cannot describe how proud I am at this moment. Not a big result for the table, but in terms of a fight, as big as it can get. Huge credit to the coaching staff and the dressing room. #QATIND".

Chhetri was not even on the bench but watched the match from the stands. Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was made the captain for the clash.

The goalie was unbeatable under the bar as he made sure he saved every ball that came his way. The Igor Stimac side will next play Bangladesh in their next match on October 15 at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan, in Kolkata.
