Pune is to host the Junior National Tennis Championships for boys and girls Under-16 after 35 years from May 20.

The 11th Ramesh Desai Memorial Junior Nationals would be followed by the HCL Asian Junior B1 ITF Tennis for boys and girls under-18 and the Asian ATF Junior Championships, said Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) secretary Sunder Iyer today.

The city had hosted the Junior Nationals way back in 1984.

All these tournaments would be organised by the MSLTA and PMDTA at the MSLTA's School of Tennis at the Shiv Chatrapathi Mhalunge Balewadi Sports complex.

"We expect over 200 entries of top under 16 boys and girls drawn from all over the country for the Junior National championships," said Iyer.

A total scholarship of over Rs 3 lakh would be given to the players from the first round, he added.

While the boys Under-16 main draw will be of 64, the corresponding girls main draw will be of 48 and the tournament proper commences on May 22.
