The former India skipper expressed grief over the demise of former Maharashtra cricketer Vasant Ranjane, who passed away on Thursday morning.
Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar paid a surprise visit to the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Gahunje here on Thursday. The former India skipper expressed grief over the demise of former Maharashtra cricketer Vasant Ranjane, who passed away on Thursday morning.
“My deepest condolences are with his family. He was one of the finest new ball bowlers and did well in the limited opportunities he got. He did pretty well, considering he bowled in an era, when spinners used to bowl more,” said Gavaskar.
After the news came about Ranjane’s death, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh players, who are involved in the Ranji Plate semifinal match here, paid tributes to the former cricketer by observing a two-minute silence. Gavaskar, however, felt that the teams should have worn black armbands. “It would have been a fitting gesture if the players had worn black armbands. This is what players in Australia and other countries do when they want to pay tribute to someone,” he remarked.
