KOLKATA: Swiss Martina Hingis gave an awesome display of aggressive tennis to bulldoze past Hungarian Melinda Czink in the opening round of the $175,000 WTA Sunfast Open on Monday.

Hingis, now on the comeback trail after missing three years on the circuit due to injury, let loose lightning down the line shots and made superb placements to romp home to a 6-1 6-2 win in only 44 minutes at the Netaji Indoor stadium centre court.

World No. 9 Hingis, who has an enviable record of 41 singles and 36 doubles titles on the tour, pocketed the first set in only 20 minutes, displaying oodles of confidence.

World No. 84 Czink, who had upset crowd favourite Sania Mirza in the  maiden edition of the tournament last year, simply had no answer to the fast-paced tennis of her famed rival and looked out of breath in the second set that was over in 44 minutes.

The former world No. 1 Hingis would now clash with Israel's Czipora Oblizer, who got past Ukrainian Yulia Beygelzimer earlier in the day, for a place in the quarter final.
