COLOMBO: Sri Lanka edged out India 6-5 on penalties to make it to the final of the football competition of the 10th South Asian Games on Thursday.

After the regulation time of the 90 minutes failed to produce a goal, both teams scored once each in the extra time. Sri Lanka scored barely a minute before the final whistle of the second half of the extra time to take the match into the tiebreaker.

In the tiebreaker, both teams progressed neck and neck, whether they scored or missed. But in the end, Sri Lanka, backed by a vocal crowd, prevailed.

India had fielded its under-20 team for this competition.

Sri Lanka will meet the winner of the Pakistan-Nepal semi-final to be played at 9 pm on Thursday night.
