"The day IOA took this decision to appoint Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Chautala as life presidents, government clarified that it doesn't agree with it," said Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel. "As the decision was against basic ethics, that's why government has decided to suspend their recognition till it reverses the order."

The elevation of Kalmadi and Chautala kicked up a storm and stunned the Indian sports fraternity. Under intense pressure from various quarters, Kalmadi chose to step aside. But Chautala refused to follow suit though he said that he was ready to relinquish the post only if the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has reservations about it. He asked IOA President N Ramachandran to discuss the matter with the IOC.

Sports minster Vijay Goel had on Thursdaysaid that it will severe ties with the IOA if the decision is not overturned.
