England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has expressed shock over the murder of a 17-year-old on Thursday, and appealed to the David Cameron government to do more to prevent such crimes.

The youth is the 19th teenager to die violently in London this year. He was involved in a gang war and was shot at while on the run.

According to The Mirror, the boy was found bleeding on a housing estate Peckham, South East London.

Ferdinand, 32, who grew up less than a mile away, asked the government to “sort it out” and provide kids with more activities.

Three people are being interrogated in connection with the killing.
