Proud moment for Indian fans as Saikhom Mirabai Chanu bags silver in 49kg weightlifting category at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. She claimed India's first medal on Day 1 in Japan.

Chanu lifted 84kg and 87kg successfully but failed to lift 89kg in snatch which placed her in the second spot while China's HOU Zhihu lifted 94kg to create an Olympic record. 

The new Olympic record was registered by Mirabai Chanu with a successful lift of 115kg in clean and jerk.

Hou Zhihui set back-to-back Olympic records with a 92 Kg followed by a 94 KG snatch. Zhihui even made it look easy leaving which left the audience stunned. 

Indonesia's Aisah Windy Cantika ended up with the Bronze after a strong show in the Clean and Jerk round. She had failed in two of her attempts at the snatch round.

The event also saw an unfortunate end to the career of legendary weightlifter Miyake Hiromi career. The Japanese legend could not go out on a high as she came up with the most disappointing performance in her storied career.
