NEW DELHI: Sachin Tendulkar is set to bat again in the next few days after undergoing shoulder surgery five weeks ago, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday.

"Sachin will commence light batting drills within the week," it said in a statement, raising strong hopes of his playing in the four-Test series in West Indies starting on June 2.

"Today, Sachin underwent an examination and reassessment of his condition and his rehabilitation programme," it said, adding that his strengthening work was progressing smoothly.

The 33-year-old batsman underwent surgery in London on March 29 after the latest in a series of injury setbacks, largely attributed to the wear and tear of constant playing.
