Indian boxing is headed for yet another spell of uncertain future as Boxing India (BI) officials are busy in trading punches. With 29 out of 32 state associations, 16 out of 20 executive committee members and eight out of 10 vice-presidents raising a banner of revolt against BI president Sandeep Jajodia and secretary Jay Kowli, the downfall of the regime looks inevitable.

Ever since the body, led by Jajodia, was recognised by the International Boxing Federation (AIBA) in November 2014, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) refused to recognise BI and set up an ad-hoc committee to look into the affairs of boxing in India. But with most of the state associations and EC members now ganging against Jajodia, there is little possibility of him surviving this assault.

In an unofficial meeting of dissidents held in the Capital on Wednesday, a large majority of the members decided to bring in a no-confidence motion against Jajodia & Co. during a meeting with the IOA on May 9. If the motion is passed, it will bring to an end the short spell of Jajodia and Kowli at the helm of Indian boxing.

"The no-confidence motion will be passed because most of the EC members and state associations are backing the anti-Jajodia group. All are of the view to hold fresh elections and get the BI recognised by the IOA," a senior EC member told dna on Wednesday.

dna has learnt that only Mizoram, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra are backing the BI president, while Kerala secretary CB Raje and Daman & Diu president Amarjit Singh, who are part of the EC, have extended their support to the existing regime.

On the other hand, BI treasurer Hemant Kumar Kalita (Assam) has severed ties with them and joined the rival group. He was part of the meeting on Wednesday.

Even BI secretary Kowli has serious differences with Jajodia over the proposed executive committee meeting in New Delhi on Thursday. After the EC members demanded that a Special General Meeting (SGM) be held, it has been learnt that Kowli wrote a strongly-worded letter to Jajodia questioning his constitutional right to convene such a meeting.

"Since this EC meeting called by you isn't as per our constitution, I will not attend the same. As communicated to you many times earlier, an SGM is the only way to proceed ahead hereafter. Since Indian boxing is going through a difficult time, I kept a lot of patience in the hope that you would try to take everybody along by accepting this mistake (to convene the meeting) as an unintentional error, but you wish to still go ahead despite a vice-president pointing out your mistake and a strong majority objecting BI's ways. While carrying out duties of running BI without any logistical support in last six months, I have tried my best to run BI operations keeping you informed all the time and at every step. However, I do not wish to carry on wrong path if it's not as per our constitution," said the letter, a copy of which is with dna.

The letter, which Kowli spoke of, was written by senior EC member and vice-president, T Meren Paul.
