Rory McIlroy aims to become golf’s top seed

Northern Irish professional golfer Rory McIlroy is aiming to achieve his ultimate goal of becoming golf’s top seed in 2012.

McIlroy, who won this year’s US Open is currently placed third behind Lee Westwood and Luke Donald, admits that his dream cannot be fulfilled this season.

“Becoming world No.1 is a definite ambition,” the Daily Express quoted McIlroy, as saying.

“Getting to third spot is a nice achievement, but I want the top spot. It’s a big career goal of mine,” he added.

After his wrist injury at the US PGA, McIlroy has not been able to perform much, but he wishes to play and win as much as possible to get closer to Westwood and Donald before the end of the season.

He has even planned to buy a house in Florida to help in pursuing his ambition and also give him a better base in America.

The golfer said, “I’m not leaving Northern Ireland " it’ll always be home " but instead of coming home for two or three weeks in March or April I can stay in the States.”

“That means I can practise better for the Masters, because as well as No1 spot I also want the Green Jacket, having come so close this year,” he added.
