Rio 2016: Narsingh Yadav meets Modi; PM asks him to participate in Olympics without any tension

After a controversial week of doping allegations, Narsingh Yadav, who got clearance on Monday to go to Rio 2016 by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. 

Yadav said that Modi asked him to participate in the Olympics 'without any tension'  and win laurels for the country. 

Speaking to media, he said, "I believe, I will definitely win medal for my country."

The NADA reached the conclusion after three days of marathon hearings last week during which Narsingh's lawyers argued that the wrestler had been sabotaged by rivals.

Narsingh, who bagged the quota with a bronze medal finish in last year's World Championships, tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid on both his 'A' and 'B' samples. He had been provisionally suspended since then. Narsingh had cried foul play, claiming that his food had been spiked and has filed an FIR at the Sonepat Police Station against two fellow wrestlers.

WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had also backed Narsingh's claims of a conspiracy, after his sparring partner and roommate Sandeep Tulsi also tested positive for drugs. 

Narsingh was selected for the Rio Olympics in controversial circumstances as two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar had demanded for trials to determine who should go to the games. However, Narsingh was favoured for the same after fighting a lengthy legal battle with Sushil.
