The current Australian team seems to be rather mellowed. On Tuesday, Mike Hussey played down Yuvraj Singh’s comments on Ricky Ponting.
“There is no worry at all. I think he is the best man to do the job and he has been doing it for a long time. He has certainly got the full support of the team,” said Hussey, during a media interaction at the Motera Stadium here on Tuesday.
Yuvraj had said that Australia are a top side, they’ve won three successive World Cups but Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden are not there. You can get into the middle-order and Ponting is not in great form. If we can get into their weaknesses, we can win the quarterfinal.”
Going one step further, Hussey, who is excited about the big quarterfinal clash, said Australia stand a chance to beat India. “I don’t care much about what’s happening outside the arena. All I care about is what’s happening in the team and I think we have performed well in the subcontinent over the past couple of years,” said Hussey before adding, “We have got a great blockbuster match against India and its going to be a great spectacle.”
At the same time, Australians have kept a close eye on India’s batting collapses and difficulty in negotiating short balls. “We have the pace and they give us some short ball in the nets so I think they will give some short balls to the Indians as well. That’s the way they like to bowl, they like to be aggressive and take wickets with some short balls,” he added.
