Real Madrid v/s Liverpool Champions League final: Gareth Bale's wonder to Lois Karius' blunder- 5 big talking points

Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 to clinch their 13th Champions League title on Saturday night. It was a night full of dramatic and controversial incidents. From stunning bicycle-kick goals to unbelievable goalkeeping blunder, here are some of the biggest points of the match: 

Salah's injury 

This has been a dream season for Mohamed Salah - but it ended in tears. Liverpool were expecting their leading man to lead them to the title. Salah looked to be playing all the right notes. However, a clash with Sergio Ramos brought his night and season to a tearful end.

Salah tried to labour on but despite his best efforts the Egyptian had to be substituted off and left the field in tears. Early reports suggest Salah could have dislocated his shoulder and his World Cup hopes are in serious doubt.

What a pity. 

Sergio Ramos did it again

The clash between Sergio Ramos and Mohamed Salah in the first half that forced the Liverpool frontman off was certainly one of the biggest turning points in the match. Ramos hooked Salah by the arm and the Egyptian landed awkwardly as he fell. Many saw it as a deliberate attempt by Ramos to injure his opposite man. 

He also was seen laughing and smiling as Mohamed Salah walked out of the Champions League final with a shoulder injury.  

While most experts didn't consider it to be a dirty challenge, the Spaniard was surely cast as the villain of the night by most Liverpool fans.

Bale's goals

Not many considered Gareth Bale to be hero of the final for Real Madrid. However, his introduction as a 61-minute sub made all the difference. 

Bale’s stunning bicycle-kick provided the moment of brilliance Real needed to take control of the match. He then scored his second to seal the match. 

Karius can's catch

In big matches like a Champions League final, one bad mistake is spells disaster. Lois Karius made two.

Real went ahead after the break when the ill-fated Karius threw the ball out towards forward Karim Benzema whose outstretched leg turned it into the unguarded goal. 

Loris Karius later who dropped an embarrassingly easy catch and let the ball fall into the net for Bale's second and Real's third goal.

A night to forget for the young man.

Hi5 for Ronaldo

Ronaldo did not score for his third consecutive UCL match. But he still ended that night with his fifth Champions League title. Real Madrid's biggest player continues to grow and grow.

He then made some headlines after dropping hints that it may well have been his last game for Real Madrid.
