Pak 'good enough' to reach T20 WC semi-finals: Asif Iqbal

Former Pakistan captain Asif Iqbal has said the present team is good enough to proceed through their Super Eight group, which also includes India, South Africa and Australia, and reach the semifinals of the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup.

"Pakistan is the only team that has reached the semi-finals in every World T20 , so obviously they've got a very good pedigree. They have a very good record and have performed well in T20s particularly," Iqbal said during an interview with Pakpassion.net.

"In this particular tournament Pakistan has performed well both when batting first and fielding first, you saw that against India in the practice match in which they were exceptionally good," he added.

"They beat India chasing about 180 runs, but the same team chasing 111 against England couldn't do it. So we have seen the best and the worst of Pakistan in the practice matches, but in the matches that matter, against New Zealand and Bangladesh, they played very good all-round cricket," he said.

Iqbal added: "Although I think fielding still seems to be the weakest department, but they have qualified by playing some really good cricket.

"I think that of the 8 teams remaining, I would put Pakistan in the top 2 or 3 contenders for the top spot. They are capable, they are good enough, and they have the history," he further said.

"As I said they have been in ALL semi-finals in the past and I think all the departments are covered. They just need to be a little bit more alert in the field, that's all," he concluded.

Pakistan play their first game of the Super 8 stage in Colombo against South African on the 28th of September and India on 30th September, with their final match of the Super 8s against Australia on 2nd October.
