Semifinals day at the $192,500 Punj Lloyd PSA Squash Masters turned out to a be a huge anticlimax. England’s James Willstrop, the No 2 seed, thrashed Hisham Ashour 3-0 while world champion Briton Nick Matthew trounced Amr Shabana of Egypt 2-0 with Shabana conceding after dropping the second game.
Willstrop has been in sparkling form throughout the tournament. He made quick work of world No 2 Ramy Ashour’s elder brother Hisham. The Englishman, ranked No 4 in the world played to an immaculate length and ran the Egyptian ragged.
The sparse gathering disappointed with the lopsided outcome, licked their lips in anticipation for the Nick Matthew-Amr Shabana outcome. But to their disappointment the one-sided fare continued.
