Sunil Gavaskar has clarified that he never talked about U-turn vis-a-vis BCCI as reported in a section of the media. Insisting that he was widely misquoted, the former India captain said, “I am extremely disappointed by the media reports about the offer made to me to come on IPL board. The word ‘u-turn was never uttered by me. All I said was that ‘I was baffled by the turn of events’.”
Gavaskar was commenting on his reaction to the way the BCCI has allegedly withheld his dues. Apparently, he was promised $1 million a year for his association with the IPL.
He confirmed that Arun Jaitley had no say in the matter. “I have also not said that Pawar (Sharad) and Jaitley both promised that my dues will be cleared. This is completely untrue. Jaitley, in fact, was only the receiver of the confirmation from Pawar that I had indeed been made a renewed offer. He, in turn, conveyed that to the Working Committee. Beyond that Jaitley has had no role to play in the episode,” he said.
